Does the Hawk Fly by Your Wisdom?

The story of Job is chocked full of insight into the nature of God, the nature of Man and the presence of EVIL around us. In Job, we learn about God’s hedge of protection around us. We learn also that even a righteous and blameless man like Job can get things twisted.

Job questions God’s justice.

Then God told Job, “Who is this that questions my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.”

Then God goes into a long inquiry asking Job, “Where were you when I designed the worlds, heavens, the stars, the earth, the animals, the people”?

In the middle to the tongue lashing God is giving Job he cites another example of his divine fingerprint on what he has created.

He says, “Does the Hawk Fly by Your Wisdom and Spread Her Wings to the South?”.

Each fall red-tailed hawks migrate South for the Winter. God says, HE DID THAT. He created THAT, Along with all the other attributes these beautiful birds of prey possess. He created the affinity for these beautiful birds to hunt cooperatively with man …. GOD DID THAT. God created the reckless 100% total commitment in pursue of prey. Disregarding bodily injury…….. GOD DID THAT. God created this unique creature I have the privilege to hunt with. He created a bird of prey , that would allow me taking it from the wild, tame it to some small degree, cooperatively hunting with it for a season, then releasing it again to fly as wild and free as ever.

Just like the Book of Job can teach us a lot about the nature of God and Man, Falconry has taught me a lot about my relationship between God and Me. I feel it deep in my bones when I am out with my bird, hunting in the woods.

God made the Red Tailed Hawk. Designed to be wild in nature yet at the same time walk (or fly) in harmony with the Falconer. That’s essentially what 86 West is all about. Exploring the divinity of God and the symbiotic relationship between man and God and likewise the symbiotic relationship between falcon and Falconer.

86 West is that place. A place of Faith, Family and Falconry.
