A Hedge of Protection.
Strong enough to hold a pterodactyl.
The attached picture is my hawks living quarters. In falconry lingo it’s called a mews.
You might think of the mews as being similar to a dog pen but it’s really not. The mews isn’t so much designed as a pen to keep the bird from getting away as it is a sanctuary. The mews is designed to give the bird a safe place to live. A place of peace and comfort. A place to be out of the rain and cold. A place that is impenetrable from outside predators and dangers. My mews is covered on the outside with a rubber coated wire. Over the wire I put heavy gauge cattle pen wire. That’s because I live out in the sticks. There are bobcats, coyotes and stray dogs that might be able to claw thru the wire but they will never get thru cattle pen wire. Inside the mews I have perches, and a water/ bath pan for the birds comfort. The flooring is pea gravel to help in keeping sanitary conditions. About once a month I clean the mews with a pressure washer to keep it nice and fresh.
I even have a web camera installed. I can look in on my bird remotely 24/7 with an app on my iPhone. I use it everyday to check on my bird’s well being. Sometimes several times a day.
The mews always reminds me of Job’s hedge of protection. You remember the story of Job. God summoned each angel to appear before him, and Satan comes slithering in. To paraphrase, God brags about Job for being a righteous man and Satan says “You’ve put a hedge of protection around him and his family, his property and his possessions. I can’t get to him.”
A Hedge of Protection. That’s exactly what my hawk has. Safety, comfort and protection with an ever present watchful eye.
And that is exactly what you and I have. Job’s not the only one God protects. He protects me and my family and my land and my possessions. My hedge of protection might not be quite as robust as Job’s. It might have a few gaps in it. It might have a bare spot or two but that’s my fault. I don’t water my hedge quite like Job did. But it’s there. It surrounds me. It’s out on the edge of my property. It has a Sentry posted 24/7. An ever present guardian is assigned to watch and protect. You can’t physically see the hedge or the sentry but trust me it’s there. You have to look at it thru a different lens.
You have this same hedge of protection. You, your family, your property and your possessions. God has a sentry posted who’s sole purpose is to protect you and those you love from evil.
The next time you leave your place stop and take a look in the rear view mirror. Do you see it? A hedge surrounding your place. Can you see the sentry on his post? He is covered in shining armor and has a shining swift sword on his side. He will watch and fight the enemy in the name of the Lord God Almighty. Stop and just take a look it the next time you drive out. Then thank God for his hedge of protection around you.
Remember always, God loves you and there is nothing you can do that could ever change that.
A Mighty Fortress is Out God,
A Bulwark never failing.
