The Lion of God - Dedication
Coming tomorrow my short story, “The Lion of God”. Eight episodes. One dropped every Saturday morning over the next 8 weeks. To be enjoyed with your Saturday morning coffee.
My first attempt at a short story. I hope you enjoy it.
But today before the release of the first part,
A Dedication.
For My Mother
Sometimes my mother and I sit and talk about the Bible.
We ask questions. We wonder about things. And sometimes, we tell ourselves stories.
Why did Samson trust Delilah again and again when he knew she couldn’t be trusted.
What happened to Lazarus after Jesus raised him from the dead? Did he live a long life? What was the rest of his story?
What exactly caused Lucifer to rebel against God? And how in the world did he convince a third of the angels to follow him?
Sometimes we ask harder questions.
Would a loving and just God really condemn people to burn in hell for all eternity?
And could the answer somehow be connected to the redeemed servant in Deuteronomy 15, or to the Year of Jubilee?
We don’t always find the answers.
But we enjoy asking the questions. And sometimes, in searching for the answers, we discover stories waiting to be told.
My mother taught me faith long before I understood it.
I was eight years old when I watched her being baptized in a little creek within walking distance of our home.
I can still remember that day.
She was the catalyst.
Her faith became my father’s faith. My faith. Both of my sister’s faith.
And that faith continues to live in us.
She is Always faithful. Always kind. Always loving.
One of her favorite Bible verses is Proverbs 25:11:
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.”
She has lived by those words.
Always seeming to know just what to say. And perhaps more importantly, knowing what doesn’t need to be said.
She is my rock.
She is the person in my life who gets me. Who understands me. Who knows my heart and loves me just the same.
Mom, so many of the stories I hope to tell began with the faith you planted in me, and with the questions we have asked together.
This is one of those stories.
The Lion of God is dedicated to you.
I love you dearly. ❤️
